Laura Bush to 'tell stories' in her book

Laura Bush, the wife of the US president, has agreed to publish a memoir that will encompass her recollections of personal and historical moments, including her eight years in the White House.

The Scribner publishing house, in announcing the agreement on Monday, said the memoir is expected to be released in 2010.

"Her memoir will provide a candid and personal perspective, and an enduring record, of the years that have already determined the court of the 21st century," said Susan Maldow, executive vice president and publisher of Scribner. The American public has long been fascinated by the first lady. Laura Bush said she looked forward to working with the publisher "as I tell the stories of the extraordinary events and people I've met in my life, particularly during my years in the White House."

No skimpy clothes for Rihanna

R&B sensation Rihanna will shun skimpy outfits when she performs in Malaysia next month, the concert's organizers said yesterday, becoming the latest international star affected by the Muslim-majority country's strict rules on performers' dress.

Recent concerts by Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne faced protests by conservative Muslim Malaysians over immodest clothes. Under government guidelines, a female performer must be covered from the top of her chest, including her shoulders, to her knees. The Malaysian organizers of Rihanna's Feb 13 stop on her 'Good Girl Gone Bad' tour voiced hopes that protests would not mar the Grammy-winning singer's show.

Rihanna's management is "aware of the country's regulations and the difficulties of doing a show," Razman Razali, managing director of Pineapple Concerts, said.

Winehouse drops drug case appeal

British singer Amy Winehouse dropped her appeal in a Norwegian drug case and will accept a fine for illegal marijuana possession in 2007, her attorney said yesterday.

Winehouse and her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, were arrested during a concert stop in the western city of Bergen in October 2007 on charges of possessing 7 grams of marijuana.
