China Daily | Updated: 2009-01-03 07:58

Sri Lankan troops have captured the separatist Tamil Tiger rebels' headquarters town of Kilinochchi after months of fighting, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa said on Friday.

Shortly afterwards, a suspected suicide attacker struck near the headquarters of the Sri Lankan air force in the capital Colombo, a military official said. Two people were killed and 30 admitted to hospital with wounds, officials said.

Troops fought their way into the Tiger stronghold of Kilinochchi in the north, in one of the biggest blows for the rebels in years.
