Wu's bold gamble reaps rich dividends

James Wu, honorary chairman of Maxim's Caterers, made a bold decision three decades ago that he remains proud of to this day.

The move followed former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping's visit to the United States in 1979, during which Deng signed an agreement authorizing flights between Beijing and San Francisco.

As a result, demand for in-flight catering services was created.
