Solar spending

Kaneka Corp, a Japanese synthetic resin maker, will invest at least 10 billion yen ($111 million) to double solar-cell capacity as demand rises for the energy source.

Production capacity at a plant in Hyogo prefecture, western Japan, will rise to 150 megawatts from 70 megawatts currently by summer 2010, the Osaka, western Japan-based company said in a statement on its website yesterday.
