不折腾 (bu zhe teng)

Don't get sidetracked

A new catchphrase mentioned by President Hu Jintao at a recent conference celebrating the 30th anniversary of China's adoption of the reform and opening up initiative. When talking about the country's ambitious goal of building a more prosperous, modern and democratic society in the future, President Hu pointed out that the goal would surely come true if "we don't sway back and forth, don't relax our efforts, and don't get sidetracked on our way to constructing a socialist society with Chinese characteristics". Since then, the phrase has made headlines in newspapers across the country.

"Don't get sidetracked" is expected to be a guideline embraced by the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) in its leading the once-suffering Chinese nation to realize a much-anticipated national rejuvenation.
