Birth defects in spotlight
The government must do more to prevent birth defects, Li Bin, minister of the National Population and Family Planning Commission said yesterday at a conference in Beijing.
At present, 30 percent of all babies born with physical defects die in their first few days, while 40 percent are left permanently disabled, he said.
