Fame and fortune

A group of talented and energetic young people gathers to audition for the School of Performing Arts. As they venture on their path to fame and fortune they will feel confused, lost, frustrated and will always struggle. But they will never give up. Over the next two weeks senior students of the China Central Academy of Drama will perform their real life stories in a Chinese remake of the 1980s classic movie, TV series and musical Fame.
The Beijing Nederlander New Century International Theater Management Company is staging the Chinese production following its success last year in bringing the Broadway hit 42nd Street on a China tour.
"Two years ago we set up the company with three strategies: to import good musical productions from abroad, to learn and assimilate the advanced theatre management expertise of Broadway, and to produce Chinese productions," says Chen Jixin, chairperson of the Beijing Nederlander New Century International Theatre Management Company.
