With Florida leading 1-0 on Ville Peltonen's breakaway goal earlier in the second, Weiss and Campbell connected in quick-strike fashion to knock out Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist for the second time in three home games. Anderson, making his second straight start over No. 1 goalie Tomas Vokoun, had his second shutout of the season. Michael Frolik added a goal and assist for Florida. Blues 4, Thrashers 2 At Atlanta, Keith Tkachuk tied it at 2-all late in the second period for his 1,000th point, and Brad Boyes scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third for St. Louis. Tkachuk, in his 17th NHL season, has 511 goals and 489 assists in 1,077 regular-season games. Jay McClement added an empty-net goal, and David Backes also scored. Colby Armstrong and Niclas Havelid scored for Atlanta. The Thrashers have lost six of their last seven games. Stars 4, Oilers 3 At Dallas, Mike Modano scored on a power play with 2:21 remaining to give the Dallas Stars a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. Modano broke a tie with his 537th career goal, beating rookie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers from the left circle off a feed from Brad Richards. Modano, the career goal leader among US-born players, became the 31st NHL player to reach 1,300 points. Sean Avery gave Dallas - last in the Western Conference - a 3-2 lead with 5:09 remaining off a centering pass from rookie James Neal, but the Oilers tied it with 3:22 left on Kyle Brodziak's goal off a rebound, his second goal of the game. Toby Petersen scored his first goal in two seasons, and Mike Ribeiro added a power-play goal for Dallas. Ales Hemsky also scored for Edmonton. Ducks 4, Hurricanes 1 In Raleigh, North Carolina, Rob Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne scored in a 1:09 span of the third period, and Niedermayer added another goal to help the Anaheim Ducks beat the Carolina Hurricanes. The Ducks, 13-3-3 since a 3-1 loss to Carolina on Oct 19, tied a team record by earning at least a point in their eighth consecutive road game. Selanne tipped in Chris Pronger's slap shot on a power play with 12:44 left, and Niedermayer took a pass from Brendan Morrison and scored with 11:35 to go. Niedermayer scored again with about 5 minutes left to seal the Hurricanes' fourth loss in five games. Agencies (China Daily 12/02/2008 page24) |
