Lee Kuan Yew gets surgery

Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's influential former prime minister, is in hospital following surgery but is expected to be discharged today, the government said yesterday.

Lee, 85, the father of current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and "minister-mentor" in his son's cabinet, had minor surgery on Saturday to implant a cardiac pacemaker, a statement from the prime minister's office said.
