Awards for innovation

Yue Zhang from the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, and Feng Ni, a government officer from Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning won the $100,000 Holcim Awards Gold 2008 on Thursday in New Delhi at the Holcim awards ceremony 2008 Asia Pacific.

The event, organised by ACC Limited and Ambuja Cements (the Group Companies of Holcim in India), saw several innovative and prize winning ideas that have been put into practice by prominent experts, practitioners and students of construction, architecture, civil engineering and town planning from the Asia Pacific region.

While the $50,000-Silver 2008 award was bagged by Kazuhiro Kojima, of Tokyo, Japan for giving shape to low-impact Greenfield university campus of Ho Ch Minh City in Vietnam, the $25,000 Bronze 2008 went to Mark Igou, Director, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, New York, USA, for building an energy-efficient office complex in Hyderabad.
