The dice men
This Is How We Roll...
The bar is loud and the waitress has heard most of your drinks order. She puts the bottle of whisky on the table, along with the ice and glasses, before reaching into an apron pocket and pulling out a handful of dice, dropping them into the leather cups already set out. The rattling of dice from the other tables is still audible over the music, but without knowing the rules, or even the name of the game, you're just stuck with something else on your table ready to get knocked over.
This is club culture Chinese style. With conversation near impossible, sociable gaming becomes the best way to enjoy a night out with a friend, and whilst I've seen Laowai playing poker dice, amongst themselves, the regulars are playing the ancient game of Liar's Dice, a game who's popularity is on the increase again, after it turned up in second Pirates of The Carribean Movie.
