The longest sushi bar in China

With glass walls and colorful lights, Aqua Restaurant Group's bar and eatery in the Legation Quarter looks chic and attractive, from both the outside and inside. Owner and designer David Yeo has managed to put in two restaurants and two bars into the complex.

Shiro Matsu, meaning "white pine" in English, is named after a protected plant, at the gate of the restaurant. The Japanese restaurant strikes one as surreal, with its big flashy screen, and floating candle lights inspired by the Harry Potter films, bamboo barrels on the surrounding walls, and a glass roof with white sand beneath. In fact, it takes a while for the eyes to get used to the contrast between the colorful lights and the dimly lit ambience. But the design is successful in creating a wow effect among first comers.

The Japanese restaurant has what it believes to be the longest sushi bar in China, measuring 18 m. Japanese chef Yakuwa Kazuaki is said to cook great tasting balloonfish. The seafood is wonderfully fresh and smooth tasting. There is also a sumibiyaki (charcoal) grill room where customers can order the choicest cuts of wagyu, steaks and fresh seafood to be grilled a la minute, in their presence.
