Unwarranted punishment

China Daily | Updated: 2008-11-29 08:02

Punishment by a school of two students over a trivial incident violated their rights, says an article in Wuhan Evening Post. The following is an excerpt:

After a male student ate an apple given by a female student and chatted with her for a while, both were dismissed from a school in Henan province. They were accused of having "intimate relations".

The dismissal seriously violated the rights of the two students. First, it infringed upon their right to receive an education, which is against the Education Law and Law on the Protection of Minors.
