Free congee for poor people

China Daily | Updated: 2008-11-29 08:02

The emergence of stalls serving free congee to the poor in Wenzhou reinforces the call for the establishment of more refuge centers equipped to serve such meals, says an article in Beijing News. The following is an excerpt:

Netizens recently discovered that Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, has a number of stalls serving free congee to the poor. The stalls are run by retired residents. Some netizens said that "we should donate money to these people so that they can continue running these stalls". These congee stalls are especially welcome when the whole country is working together to get through the current financial crisis.

People tend to be cold and detached. But the free congee stalls in Wenzhou are rare today, they only existed in old stories and films.
