Special supplement: Northern city Hunchun now an investment hotspot

With the opening of a new sea-land transportation route linking the four countries of China, Russia, the Republic of Korea and Japan, it looks set that Hunchun, a city in east Jilin, will become a hot investment destination in northeast China, Yu Jinxian, secretary-general of Hunchun city government, said at the ceremony for trial operation of the route on Oct 24.
Concurrent with the ceremony is the inauguration of the Japanese Industrial Park in Hunchun, illustrating Japanese investors have already shown strong interest in this emerging investment destination.
According to Yu, Hunchun has drawn the attention of global investors in recent years thanks to the implementation of the Tumen River Area Development Program. Begun in 1991, the cross-border development initiative is supported by the United Nations Development Program and other international and regional organizations.
