Cowards to blame for thefts

China Daily | Updated: 2008-11-26 07:47

The cowardice and selfishness of passengers help make thefts possible, says an article on the website www.cnhubei.com. The following is an excerpt:

Three thieves stabbed and wounded a bus driver after he had tried to stop them from stealing on a bus from Zhuozhou, Hebei province, to Beijing that carried 40 passengers. No passenger stood up fighting with the thugs at that time -- they all sat there with their mouths shut, seeing the thieves flee.

These thieves dared to steal in broad daylight and even stab the driver because passengers were too timid and selfish. They all tried to protect their own safety, ignoring a basic truth - evil shall not prevail over justice. They failed to use their collective power to deter the crime.
