Lines of engagement

With a single palette knife, Finnish artist Soile Yli-Mayry applies bright pigment in large areas, casting warmth to the winter of the city.
The purity of the blues and greens, the cleanliness of orange and yellow dominate the canvas. The thin brush lines, usually in black, are spontaneous, like crooked lanes. From the contrast of colors and the richly layered lines, one can see the illusive images of human, animals, trees and plants.
"Soile Yli-Mayry's works transmit a kind of vitality and energy," says Niu Lan, an art critic and visitor to the show.
