Saying Thanks

Most Americans roast a turkey at home for Thanksgiving. Although most homes in Beijing don't have an oven you can still tuck into it here because whole turkeys are available in American-style restaurants and can be ordered ready-cooked. Holiday Inn Lido Beijing, for example, offers turkey take-away, as it does every year.

"We've been distributing order forms to customers, most of whom come to get their turkey ready-roasted on November 27," says Jennifer Wang, F&B manager at the hotel. Out of 50-60 people who ordered take-away turkey, only a few order it raw to roast at home.

Hilton Beijing's turkey is imported from the US and has an air pipe, which pops out when it's ready, making it easy to cook at home. You can order it with giblets, chestnut dressing and cranberry sauce or gravy. The hotel can even prepare steamed vegetables and mashed potato, and pumpkin pie is also available.
