Special supplement: Chen Kaizhi: Witness to change

Chen Kaizhi, who once worked as the vice-secretary-general of Guangdong committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), was a firsthand witness to the opening and reform policies in Guangdong province over the past three decades.

Chen was born in May 1940 in Yunfu city of Guangdong province. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1960 and started his political career four years later after he graduated from college.

He was promoted to be the vice-secretary of the CPC Guangdong committee in 1985 and transferred to be the vice-mayor of Guangzhou in 1992.
