Shenzhen to get phone system
A Sino-British telephone company will be set up in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone to build a telephone system there that is capable of handling 200,000 lines.
The contract for the project was signed last week, which involves a total investment estimated at 360 million yuan, between the Shenzhen Telecommunications Development Co and the Cable and Wireless Public Ltd Co of Britain.
After completion, the joint venture will provide telephone services within Shenzhen and handle long-distance and international calls to the city.
Help in pre-school education
A new teacher-training school for pre-school education has opened in Beijing and 80 middle school graduates have been enrolled, according to the municipal bureau of education.
Since 1980, a total of 15 high schools throughout Beijing's 11 districts have run classes to train teachers for nursery and infant schools.
The procedure was introduced since many nurseries and kindergartens run by enterprises were disbanded in order to save money, forcing on-the-job mothers of small children to give up their jobs.
