Moviegoers can catch a six-day glimpse of South Korean cinema, which has captured international attention in recent years by its innovative narration and thought-provoking themes.
The South Korean Film Week, which kicked off yesterday, brings 12 movies to Beijing's theaters.
Among them is Secret Sunshine, directed by acclaimed director Lee Chang-dong, which follows a woman's search for inner peace after the death of her husband. The discussion of how much religion can relieve man from the continuous hardships in life is prominent in South Korean cinema. The film won Jeon Do-yeon the award for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival last year. Her performance, slow-burning but powerful, shines brightly throughout the 141 minutes.
