Assembly sacks chairman

Ukraine's parliament dismissed its chairman yesterday, an ally of President Viktor Yushchenko, after accusing him of violating rules of order in the chamber.

Yushchenko said it was no longer wise to hold the early parliamentary election he called last month. The country, he said, needed to turn its full attention to tackling the effects of the world financial crisis.
