Booming collective business
The collective Beijing Dashalan Trade Company, among the many small enterprises that mushroomed in the late 1970s, is holding its late autumn sales, and enjoying the best business of the year.
The company sells everything from luxury jewelery to 0.14 yuan handkerchiefs. It has yielded 26 million yuan of turnover in the first nine months of this year, said a company official Liu Lili.
Earlier, the company invested 360,000 yuan in a hotel business and is now negotiating with a Hong Kong company to start a fast food joint venture.
Han Dynasty tomb unearthed
A tomb from the early West Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) has been found in Guangzhou in the north of the city, according to local archaeologists.
A gold seal with a dragon-shaped handle was discovered bearing the characters of Emperor Wen. This confirmed that the occupant of the stone-built tomb, the largest ever found in Guangdong province, was of the second emperor of the State of Nanyue.
More than 500 bronze objects, 200 jade articles and other relics were discovered, which are believed to be helpful to the study of economy, culture and history of the area in relevant historical period.
