SHANGHAI: Sweden's Henrik Stenson rode a hot putter to shoot a seven-under 65 on the first day of the HSBC Champions here yesterday for a one-shot lead over a world-class quartet headlined by Phil Mickelson.
Aside from world No 2 Mickelson, Spain's Sergio Garcia, young US Ryder Cup sensation Anthony Kim and Australian Adam Scott carded six-unders on a wet and misty day in Shanghai to give the leaderboard plenty of star power.
"I'm very pleased with that," the big-hitting Stenson said as he thanked his putting for the sizzling round that ended a patch of bad form in which he fell out of the top 10 in the world rankings.
