Joint bid to save land

China and the Global Environmental Facility pledged in Beijing yesterday to further strengthen cooperation in combating land degradation.

The two will promote integrated ecosystem management (IEM), a holistic approach to addressing the linkage between ecosystems and social, economic, and production systems. Li Yucai, deputy director of the State Forestry Administration, said IEM is an effective way to treat land degradation.
