NEW YORK: The New York Islanders moved out of last place in the NHL standings with a 2-1 win over the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers on Tuesday.
Joey MacDonald made 35 saves as the Islanders (4-7-1) won their second successive game after a six-game losing streak despite being out-shot 36-19 and out-played most of the night.
MacDonald, who is filling in for the injured Rick DePietro, made several important saves to earn his seventh career win in his 26th NHL game.
