Samsung profit up

Samsung Heavy Industries Co, the world's second-largest shipbuilder, said profit in the third quarter rose 23 percent as it built more vessels at higher prices.

Net income in the three months to Sept 30 climbed to 174.2 billion won ($138 million) from 141.5 billion won a year earlier, the Seoul-based company said in a regulatory filing yesterday. Sales increased 16 percent to 2.6 trillion won.
