Chinese youngsters 'charmed, impressed'
Dubbed the "American dream", Barack Obama has charmed and impressed many Chinese youngsters who took it for granted he would win the presidential election.
"I changed my MSN message to 'cool Obama, no surprise' this morning," 25-year-old Huang Ruiyuan, who works for an advertising company in Beijing, said.
"Obama held a decisive edge in national opinion polls, so I expected no surprises in the final outcome," she said.
Zhang Meng, 26, who has just returned from studies in Britain, said it was good a black man could be elected president for the first time in a predominantly white country
"Obama's win, is an advertisement for America and its political system," Zhang said.
He said the US election campaign was like a political show or a movie, but Obama winning was better than any Hollywood movie.
Young Chinese planning to study in the US were also concerned about Obama's China policies.
Alan Wang, 22, a graduate who plans to study in the US, said: "I hope Obama will promote more human-oriented policies for Asian immigrants.
