Twenty-nine of the 51 people treated for cholera in Hainan were discharged from hospital on Monday, and the situation is now under control, the provincial health department said yesterday.
No new cases have been reported since Sunday, spokeswoman Wu Guizhu told China Daily. "Our investigations traced the outbreak of the acute intestinal illness to a dinner party held in the village of Huangyu in Danzhou on Oct 20," she said.
In an interview with the Xinhua News Agency yesterday, Bai Zhiqin, director of the health department, said the disease was probably partly triggered by the recent humid weather that followed heavy rain in the province.
