Smoker caused fatal blast

The explosion on Oct 10 at a coal mine in Heshan, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, that left nine people dead was caused by someone lighting a cigarette, the regional coal mine safety administration said yesterday.

Gas inside the mine ignited when a miner lit a cigarette, which is prohibited, it said.
