Official returns

A Shanghai government official who overstayed a business trip to France returned home on Saturday.

Xin Weimin, deputy governor of Luwan district, did not return on time after his trip during the National Day holidays, sparking wide speculation the 51-year-old was involved in corruption.

Xin, the head of a delegation to Paris, left a note for his colleagues that he would be remaining in Paris to "meet friends" on Oct 15 when the visiting group returned to Shanghai.

US city in Shanghai

The City of Beverly Hills, to the west of Los Angeles in the United States, launched an office in Shanghai yesterday in a bid to enhance tourism and commercial exchanges between the two cities.

Barry Brucker, mayor of Beverly Hills said the Chinese tourist market for Beverly Hills is our fastest growing sector (among all tourists visiting this year).

Over 400 Shanghai tourists have visited the US since it became a destination for Chinese group tours in June.
