President Hu Jintao on Saturday called for Chinese women to make more contributions to the country, as part of their increasing role in its economic, social and cultural development.
Hu, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks when he met the newly elected leaders of the All-China Women's Federation and delegates to the 10th National Women's Congress.
Chinese women have made extraordinary contributions to the progress of the nation's civilization and economic growth, from revolutionary wartime to current socialist construction and reform, Hu said.
