A firm believer in mind over matter

Mental health is more important that physical health, says Li Kunlan, a senior administrator at People's Liberation Army Hospital 307 in Beijing. Li is referring to over-stressed doctors and nurses in her hospital, where 700 of the 1,000 staff are women.

"Medical professionals are under tremendous pressure because they try to avoid legal disputes, for patients nowadays have better knowledge of how to safeguard their rights," she says.

Besides, dealing with serious diseases and seriously ill patients everyday can be very depressing, she says. "Every time I used to go on patrol in the wards, I kept thinking about the meaning of life and how to deal with it."
