Liu Hong shocked the judges and participants from Germany when she walked away with the third prize at the China-Germany welding competition in Beijing in May.
The minute she took off her welding helmet, "they were surprised to find a woman welder", says Liu.
The judges singled her out to praise her skills in the male-dominated profession.
