Ex-official's plea on death
Former Beijing vice-mayor Liu Zhihua appealed against his two-year suspended death penalty, a day before the expiry of the deadline, his lawyer Mo Shaoping said yesterday. The Hengshui intermediate people's court in Hebei province found Liu guilty of taking about 6.97 million yuan ($1.02 million) in bribes. The 59-year-old was sentenced on Oct 18, and filed his appeal with the court on Monday.
