Return of an ancient doctrine of morals

Not long ago, a Western tourist asked me why Confucius and his doctrine is being rejuvenated in a modernizing China. It is also a question I have asked myself time and again.

In my opinion, the reason why Confucianism, founded more than 2,000 years ago, is once again popular is because of a deep sense of crisis among the Chinese people. The value of ethics has been on the decline in the rapid economic development of the country.

A series of scandals, including the recent Sanlu milk powder one, have exposed a serious lack of morality in some of the country's economic, administrative and social fields.
