Misguided exercise

Most people do not like political shenanigans that is why the name cards of officials were discarded, says an article in Beijing News. The following is an excerpt:

Changzhi city, Shanxi province, distributed 960,000 name cards containing the mobile and office telephone numbers of its Party chief and mayor to local residents.

For ordinary people, it is an honor to have a name card of a Party chief or a mayor, no matter whether it is useful or not. It seems to be more valuable if officials voluntarily hand out their cards in a bid to solicit grassroots advice.
