49ers fire coach Nolan

SAN FRANCISCO: The San Francisco 49ers have fired coach Mike Nolan following his team's run of four defeats, the NFL Network said on Monday.

Defensive specialist Nolan, who has a win-loss record of 17-38 in three-and-a-half seasons with the franchise, is expected to be replaced by assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Mike Singletary.

Although official confirmation was not immediately available from the 49ers, Nolan had been asked several questions about his coaching future at a news conference earlier on Monday.
