Villagers caught in urban drive

By Zhang Haizhou | China Daily | Updated: 2008-10-22 07:47

Li Jiqing and his neighbors in Qingyi township of Mianyang feel they've been neglected for too long after the devastating May 12 earthquake.

Although Qingyi Township was not among the hardest hit and had fewer casualties than other quake-devastated areas, most of the homes of the 200 residents, were destroyed in the quake.

Li and other villagers wanted to start rebuilding on their original house sites soon after the earthquake because that is where all their farmland is, but the local government stopped them.
