HARBIN: An autopsy is likely to be carried out next week on the man allegedly beaten to death on Oct 11 by six police officers in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, the victim's lawyer said yesterday.

Lin Jili, father of the victim, Lin Songling, is still hoping the examination will be conducted at a "neutral" venue outside Heilongjiang, Beijing lawyer Hu Fengbin said.

Lu Hongxi, vice-director of the Harbin public security bureau said yesterday that he was determined to discover the exact cause of Lin's death and might invite forensic experts, lawyers and notaries from the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Ministry of Public Security to attend the autopsy.
