German version of Russian classic

The great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy's 1876 novel Anna Karenina has enjoyed worldwide popularity ever since and been adapted into various productions, including the 1997 blockbuster movie featuring the beautiful and talented French actress Sophie Marceau in the title role.
A ballet version performed by the Badisches Staatstheater from the German city of Karlsruhe will run this weekend at the National Center for the Performing Arts.
Anna comes to lament the shallowness of her life with her husband who behaves correctly but has no understanding of her innermost desires. Even a life of luxury and a respected position in St. Petersburg society cannot compensate for her daily frustrations. Only her beloved little son seems to give meaning to her existence.
