Embattled 'Betty' rallies in ratings

With her big black-framed glasses, outdated haircut, bulky braces and size 10 figure among zeros, is this the homely but intelligent Betty? No. Although she is as "ugly" as Hollywood's Betty Suarez, this Betty's name is Lin Wudi.

Finally a Chinese version of Ugly Betty is on the screen and audiences here are getting a taste of the American TV series, which has spawned more than a dozen versions and is now a ratings hit in 80 countries.

Like any home-developed overseas hit, Ugly Wudi has introduced its own features for Chinese viewers, while retaining those which gave the series its original charm.
