Polanski to open film festival

Acclaimed director Roman Polanski (pictured) will arrive in Beijing on Oct 24 for the five-day screening of nine Polish films at the China Film Archive.

The award-winning director will open the event that will include a screening of the Pianist, which won him a best director Oscar in 2002. This will mark the film's first public screening on the Chinese mainland. He is also scheduled to give a lecture at the Beijing Film Academy on Oct 27. The Polish delegation attending the film gala in Beijing will include Krzysztof Zanussi, whose Persona Non Grata opens in Beijing on Oct 25. The film was nominated for the best director award at the Venice Film Festival in 2005 and stars several Polish actors of note.
