Factories urged to save water
China's factories and workshops have been asked to set water-saving targets as part of the nation's long-term water conservation effort, Zhang Jinfu, head of the State Economic Commission, said
Industry consumes the major part of the country's urban water. But in cities, there is 8 billion tons of water being wasted each year - equal to one third of the total urban supply, Zhang said.
Meanwhile, Economic Daily reports that the Second Chemical Plant in Beijing has obtained good results in saving water. It increased the value of output by 10.7 percent, while its use of water dropped by 13.3 percent - a saving of about 3 million tons.
