Ticket pricing for children

China Daily | Updated: 2008-10-11 07:57

Ticket prices for children should be based on their age and not on their height, says an article in Beijing News. The following is an excerpt:

During the National Day holidays, many parents were confused about buying tickets for their children. They wondered why the same child had different price discounts when visiting various scenic spots or using different means of transportation.

In fact, China's current discount ticket rules for children have been in force for more than a decade. The rule adopted by the railways allows children less than 1.1 m tall to travel free, those between 1.1 m and 1.4 m pay half price, and those taller than 1.4 m pay the full fare. This rule is also applies to city buses. As for theaters, museums, parks and cultural heritage sites, they each have their own rules.
