Controversial singer fit for popular person title

Chris Lee (Li Yuchun), winner of the 2005 Super Girl TV singing contest, a popular entertainment program hosted by Hunan Satellite Television, has always been a controversial person. Lee is now once again in the public spotlight.

In a recent Internet poll to choose 100 candidates who are to compete for a place on the list of the final 30 Popular Persons in the Reform and Opening up, Lee the No.038 candidate, has become the focus of much attention. The event is sponsored by the Southern Metropolis News to mark the 30th anniversary of economic reform and opening up.

She has many opponents and supporters. Opponents believe Lee is not worth such an important honor although she is very popular among the younger generation.
