Updated: 2008-10-10 08:10 I'm not gay. Really. Honestly. But maybe I'm protesting too much.
Certainly, it's suspicious the award-winning singer Wang Lee-hom has been telling anyone who will listen he's not homosexual. The rumors twirling around Wang's lissome figure have come about because of the lyrics for a new tune he has penned called Love Someone Properly (爱的得体), which sounds like "dirty" in English. In the song, he comes out with the line: "I do have good taste, but I'm not gay."
Wang has previously been accused of paying for sex with Yulon group CEO Kenneth K.T. Yen, and is a pinup hero for the pink brigade in Taiwan. Wang even concedes his mother has asked him whether he bats for the other team. As if on cue, a video has been posted on the Internet supposedly showing the American-Chinese singer wearing a bathrobe and schmoozing with Shu Qi, a Taiwan actress. They are filmed drinking champagne and eating cake until 3 am. It will be terribly confusing if Shu starts telling anyone who will listen: "I'm not a fag hag." No one is questioning the orientation of Edison Chen, the former Hong Kong entertainer who fled to Canada after videos of him working out his love muscle with various female celebrities surfaced on the Internet earlier this year. Chen has refused to return to Hong Kong after a court requested that he testify against the computer technician who allegedly posted the videos. I guess the singer doesn't want to face the music.
Meanwhile, I took a well-earned rest last week for the National Holiday. Since buying a flat-screen TV for the Olympics I have been religiously devoted to it. I also caught up on some soap opera action. I am already addicted to Ugly Woman, Betty, originally a Colombian TV series that achieved worldwide attention as the United States TV program Ugly Betty. The local version does have its critics, though. Friends are saying the lead, Li Xinru, is too pretty, not a genuine troll like America Ferrara, who takes the spotlight in the US version. Ouch!
In the only other news of note local lass Li Jiawei, who was lured from Beijing to Singapore by the promise of gold, has reportedly found love with diamond magnate Li Hou Lin. The table tennis star helped the city-state to its first medal since independence at the Beijing Games and was recently seen showing off a large rock the media assumed was an engagement gift from the playboy businessman. Li Hou Lin, however, claims not to know the ping-pong player. Aiya!
