Boon for experimental theater

The newly-opened Citycomb Theater is Meng Jinghui's contribution to the promotion of experimental theater in China.

"As a director, it has been a long-time dream to have my own theater," Meng says. For the past 20 years, ever since he began doing theater, Meng has trawled Beijing on his bicycle to look for venues.

"Beijing has so many theaters but they prefer to run commercial productions rather than experimental plays. Whenever I called to rent a place, I was told it had been booked out and that I had to wait. I cannot wait any longer."
