The Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area, engines driving growth in Beijing's economy, is also reaching milestones in energy conservation.
The development area that contributes nearly one-fourth of Beijing's total industrial output and 40 percent of its exports consumed 0.14 ton of coal equivalent for every 10,000 yuan in GDP in 2007, just one-fifth of the city-wide average, according to a report from the municipal statistics administration.
Beijing topped the energy conservation chart among all provincial economies on the mainland last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, showing that its development area is at the forefront in efficient use of energy in the entire nation.
