11 killed in Finland school shooting

China Daily | Updated: 2008-09-24 07:44

HELSINKI: A student shot dead 10 people in Kauhajoki in western Finland before shooting himself yesterday, officials said.

It was the country's second school shooting in less than a year. The gunman died in hospital from his injuries, and police identified him as Matti Juhani Saari, 22.

He had been questioned on Monday by police about YouTube postings in which he is seen firing a handgun, Interior Minister Anne Holmlund said. He was released because there was no legal reason to hold him, she said.
